What owners describe

Brakes

Owners describe brakes that engage on their own with no obstacle present, or that feel inconsistent and hard to modulate, sometimes leading to near-misses or crashes. Dealers frequently could not reproduce or fully fix the issue, though some replaced parts like switches or modules.

Warning signs:
Owners report warning lights or messages (brake system, ABS, VSA, collision mitigation), unusual pedal feel (soft, stiff, or grabby), grinding or squeaking noises, and sudden fishtailing or stalling before or during the events.
What shops did:
Dealers often reset or rebooted the system, replaced brake switches, pedal simulators, or ABS modules, or found no stored codes and told owners the behavior was normal, with some issues persisting after repair.
Mileage:
most between 5,000 and 25,000 miles, among 58 complaints that give it

“Applying brakes gives a non-linear response that makes it difficult to brake smoothly and safely.”

“Car suddenly brakes, panic breaking, with no warning and for no reason”

Driver assistance

Owners describe their Accords suddenly braking hard or coming to a stop on their own, even on highways with no traffic nearby, sometimes leading to near misses or rear-end collisions. Dealers frequently cannot replicate or diagnose the issue, leaving many owners uncertain whether or when it will happen again.

Warning signs:
Many report a flashing BRAKE warning light, a beeping alert, or a Christmas-tree of dashboard warnings (lane departure, collision mitigation, ACC) appearing just before or during the sudden braking.
What shops did:
Dealers often could not duplicate or find a cause for the sudden braking; some replaced a front camera/radar sensor, brake pedal simulator, or brake switch, while others found nothing wrong.
Mileage:
most between 15,000 and 35,000 miles, among 28 complaints that give it

“My vehicle's cmbs system activated and slowed down speed to 20mph approx. Without having any vehicles in front or near me.”

“the car's emergency braking system engaged completely unexpectedly, slamming my car to a stop.”

Electrical

Owners describe a range of electrical glitches, from safety-system warning lights and sudden braking or stalling to instrument panel blackouts and door lock failures. Repairs vary widely, with some fixed by dealers and others recurring despite multiple visits, software updates, or part replacements.

Warning signs:
Many report warning lights (ABS, brake, ACC, CMBS, LKAS) flashing on randomly, sudden unexplained braking or stalling, blank gauge clusters, and doors that won't lock or unlock.
What shops did:
Dealers often replaced batteries, sensors, instrument clusters, or wiring, performed software updates, or in several cases could not duplicate or resolve the issue.
Mileage:
most between 5,000 and 70,000 miles, among 35 complaints that give it

“Collision mitigation braking system problem. See your dealer." warning has appeared seven times in the 4,300 miles I have owned the car.”

“Brake light warning comes and with nothing in front or near me and on occasion it engages the brakes.”

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Accord Sedan, Accord Hybrid, and 2019-2020 Insight vehicles.
