What owners describe

Brakes

Many 2019 Rogue owners describe their car braking hard or stopping suddenly on its own, often with no vehicle or obstacle nearby, sometimes at highway speeds. Dealers have replaced sensors or updated software, but several owners say the sudden braking kept happening afterward.

Warning signs:
Owners describe warning lights or beeping (AEB, forward collision, ABS icons), grinding or clunking noises, and dashboard messages about radar or camera obstruction before or during the sudden stops.
What shops did:
Dealers reprogrammed software, replaced sensors, cameras, radar units, or brake components, but many owners report the problem recurred or that technicians could not duplicate or fix it.
Mileage:
most between 0 and 10,000 miles, among 88 complaints that give it

“My car made an awful noise and stopped suddenly (there were cars behind me)”

“The brake pedal was stiff and not responding.. I noticed the brake icon was on the dash”

Driver assistance

Owners of the 2019 Nissan Rogue describe the automatic emergency braking or forward collision system activating unexpectedly, causing sudden slowing or hard stops with no vehicle or obstacle nearby. Dealers often can't reproduce the issue, and even after sensor replacements, camera swaps, or software updates, many owners say the problem returns.

Warning signs:
Many report a forward collision or AEB warning light flashing or illuminating, sometimes with a beeping sound, before or during sudden braking or deceleration.
What shops did:
Dealers often could not duplicate or diagnose the problem; some replaced or recalibrated cameras and sensors, updated software, or found no fault, and the issue frequently recurred.
Mileage:
most between 10,000 and 30,000 miles, among 32 complaints that give it

“As I was going under a bridge at a speed of 40mph my car randomly began slowing down without me applying the brakes”

“The car suddenly flashed emergency brake warnings and slammed to a grinding halt in the middle of traffic”

Electrical

Owners of this Rogue report a range of electrical glitches, most often false automatic braking or collision warnings, unexpected stalling, and door lock or camera failures. Many say dealers struggled to find or permanently fix the cause, leaving them unsure the car was reliable.

Warning signs:
Owners describe warning lights (AEB, chassis control, malfunction), dashboard messages, sudden braking or shuddering, screen blackouts, and unresponsive door locks or key fobs before or during failures.
What shops did:
Dealers often could not duplicate the issue, sometimes updated software, replaced sensors, radar units, or door lock actuators, though several owners report the problem recurred afterward.
Mileage:
most between 0 and 20,000 miles, among 25 complaints that give it

“the dealer determined that there was a short to ground in the vehicle's main wiring harness”

    Electrical system: ignition: anti-theft: immobilizer/proximity: key/sender

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2014-2020 Rogue and 2017-2022 Rogue Sport vehicles equipped with a jackknife style ignition key. The jackknife key may collapse into a folded position while driving.

Risk: Driver contact with a key in the collapsed position could inadvertently shut off the vehicle while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, if the vehicle shuts off while driving, the air bags may not deploy in a crash as intended, increasing the risk of injury.

Fix: Dealers will insert a spacer into the key slot of the jackknife key, free of charge.

  • NHTSA 22V549000July 20225,904 vehicles

Service brakes, hydraulic: power assist: hydraulic

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Rogue Hybrid vehicles. The hydraulic brake booster assembly may overheat internally, resulting in a loss of power brake assist. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."

Risk: A loss of power brake assist can extend the distance required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: Dealers will replace the hydraulic brake booster supply unit, free of charge.

  • NHTSA 21V839000October 20215,905 vehicles

Hybrid propulsion system · Engine and engine cooling: engine: engine control module (ECU/ECM)

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Rogue Hybrid vehicles. Contact with the Electronic Control Module (ECM) bracket may damage the engine harness, causing a blown fuse.

Risk: A blown fuse may cause an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: Dealers will install a harness protector cover, free of charge.

Back over prevention: sensing system: camera

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Nissan Altima, Armada, Frontier, Kicks, Leaf, Maxima, Murano, NV, NV200, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Sentra, Titan, Titan Diesel, Versa Note and Versa Sedan vehicles, as well as Infiniti Q50, Q60, QX30 and QX80 vehicles. Additionally included are 2019 Nissan GT-R and Taxi and Infiniti QX50, QX60, Q70, Q70L vehicles. The back-up camera and display settings can be adjusted such that the rear view image is no longer visible and the system will retain that setting the next time the vehicle is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Risk: The lack of an image in the back-up camera display increases the risk of a crash.

Fix: Nissan will notify owners in phases, having dealers update the back-up camera settings software, free of charge.
